The principal raw materials for the production of natural (Bio) Ethanol are cereal crops, mainly corn and wheat as well as sugar cane and sugar beet. The Ethanol marketed by HELM can come from synthetic or natural sources. To meet specific customer requirements, HELM supplies different grades denaturation. Because of the alcohol tax, special attention is paid on required permits and the proper management of contracts in terms of tax legislation.
Examples of applications
Among other applications, Ethanol is applied as a biocomponent in fuels, either as direct admixture to the gasoline or as component in ETBE (ethyl tertiary butyl ether) – in both cases a clear improvement of the octane number and the combustion characteristics can be achieved. It also forms the basis for alcoholic beverages. In addition, Ethanol finds application as a solvent in cleaning fluids and printing inks, in the manufacture of disinfectants and in the pharmaceutical industry. In the production of perfumes as well as fragrances, cosmetics and flavourings, it is used as a carrier. Ethanol is one of the main raw materials used in glass cleaners and windscreen anti-freeze.
